Jan 2: Grammar Land

This week, we are rerunning some favorite resources from 2008. NEW resources begin again next week!

Grammar Land: Or Grammar In Fun for the Children of Schoolroom-Shire, by M. L. Nesbitt (PDF ebook) – “What is Grammar Land? Where is Grammar Land? Have you ever been to Grammar Land? Wait a minute and you shall hear…” In this classic read aloud book, published way back in 1878, author Nesbitt creates an amazing fantasy land not unlike “Alice In Wonderland”, where the citizens are the nine parts of speech (Mr. Proper Noun, Dr. Verb, Little Article, etc.) and all are governed by the stern but wise old Judge Grammar. It’s a fun, fascinating way to learn some of the basic grammar rules all the while carried along by the very memorable characters and a wild adventure to boot. Highly recommended!

    Natalie,

Check our “Problems?” tab at the top of the page first. You may have to adjust your Acrobat settings.

I was trying to download the grammar book. I could not. It was late last night, which could have been the problem. Anyway, is there any way I could still download this?

  5. Natalie Says:

    Jim,
I went to the Problems tab and found the information I needed, it is correct, I did not have my adobe reader set to view large images.
Thank you again, we will enjoy the book.
    I love this site.

    Hi Jim,

This one is great! We’re enjoying reading it aloud. There are not too many books online that I print out to read, but I did this one.

I wanted to leave a comment for your contest, but hadn’t used any of the resource. . .yet. So this school year, when my 2nd and 4th grader started digging their heals in with grammar I thought of this little book. I printed out a few pages, did some character voices and it has been an awesome supplement to our language arts. My kids now walk around repeating meaningful lines from the books and they love listening to it. It has really made grammar a lot more fun! Thanks!

We downloaded this book the last time it was available, and have truly enjoyed it. My 7yo finally figured out what each part of speech was, when she could picture it as a character. This is a wonderful book!

  12. Paula Says:

Hello…just back from holiday and would love to be able to download this but haven’t had any luck…guess I missed the date?

  13. Bonny Says:

Is there any way I can download this e-book? We were on vacation and I missed it, but could really use this resource for my kids if it’s still available.
    Thank you!

  14. JimE Says:

Sorry, we had it up the full week, but it is now only available in our resources store (see the tab at the top of the page).

I had downloaded this book and completely forgot about it until 2 days ago. I started reading it aloud to them and they were completely into it. My boys are very wiggly and they usually have to have something in their hands to cocupy their physical while their mental is focused on what I am reading. They were completely still…following along on the computer screen. It was one of those awesome moments that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Thank you for finding and sharing something that is so fun and educational at the same time. What a fun way to learn parts of speech. I’ve a feeling this story will stick with them for a while. The resources you list through the week are wonderful. We’ve used many of them. The Cinnamon Bear has become their favorite for 2 years in a row now. Thank you all so much for everything you do! God Bless!
