  1. We must remember that He who wins the war writes the history
Lincoln and the federal government won the war and their history is what has been taught in government schools for the last 150 years since the War Between the States (aka the Second War for Independence), or as our government has inaccurately been calling it, the Civil War.  If George Washington could see how many times he has been shouldered with Lincoln he'd not only roll over in his grave but he would rise from the dead!
Homeschoolers have a responsibility to balance out the government's brain washing by pursuing the story from all angles.  May I recommend starting with the book:  The Real Lincoln by Thomas DiLorenzo.  One will learn how America went from the Land of the Free to the Land of the Government Dominated.
By the way, I am a recovering government schooled person and no, I don't live in the South (but what wonderful people you are that do!)
