the deliberate dumbing down of america

the deliberate dumbing down of america by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt (PDF ebook)

Here’s another great read that will again confirm why homeschooling your children is such a great idea. It’s an amazing and eye-opening chronological history of the past 100+ years of “education reform”. Each chapter takes a period of history and recounts the significant events, including important geopolitical and societal contextual information. Citations from government plans, policy documents, and key writings by leading reformers record the rise of the modern education reform movement. Fascinating, frustrating, enlightening reading!

  1. Absolutely, must homeschool. And, one of my college roommates teaches at several state colleges/university in OH. She has often said that the reasons for mandatory schooling in the teens and pushing "kids" into college has little to do with education–it's to keep them from competing with older adults for jobs and to keep them off the streets and out of jail. She's very frustrated with the lack of academic preparation of most of her college students, their lack of independent thinking and general ability to communicate and disinterest in applying themselves and working at anything. I think Gatto has much of  the explanation.

  2. I started looking for this book after I downloaded because I enjoy an old fashioned book rather than the computer:) On Amazon or ebay the lowest price for used starts at $94!! And prices go up to $275!! I can't find it in our library system either. I think "someone" doesn't really want this info to be readily available or affordable to the masses… Thanks for sharing it for free.
