Kindle, Nook & other e-reader Freebie sites

If you have an Amazon Kindle or a Barnes & Noble Nook or other e-reader, you know that there is an ever-changing list of freebie ebooks that pop up from time to time for each of these. The only trouble is, the freebies are usually only available for a day or two, and it is often difficult to locate them.

Well, here are some of the top sites that report on nothing but freebies and bargain priced ebooks on kindle and nook. These sites cover ALL genres of ebooks that are made available for free, so you will need to do more than a little bit of searching around to find what you want. However, these sites are great to have bookmarked any time you want to do a quick search of what free ebooks are currently available for your reader.

Very Important Caveat: THESE LINKS ARE FOR PARENTS ONLY. Please understand that these are NOT homeschool-specific sites. These are general freebie ebook sites, and as such will have all sorts of material on them from every genre you can think of.  They are for PARENTS’ use in finding material appropriate for your kids, and you must understand that there WILL be stuff on these sites that you will not like. This is one of the issues we struggle a bit with when making general recommendations like this one, but ultimately we think it is best to just hand you the tools and let you use them as you see fit.

In other words, don’t fuss at us if you see any objectionable or questionable material on these sites that you don’t like. Glean and use them wisely.

  1. Thanks! I love getting free Kindle books – it’s like having a library at my disposal!

One of my friends told me about this website that has free or cheap Christian Kindle books:
http://www.inspiredreads.com/. They have fiction and nonfiction and even children’s books.

  2. Thank you so much for the list, we just bought a Color Nook and this list will give me a place to start. Have a great day!

  3. Thanks for the link to our site!

We often post child-friendly books – candidly, about once a week (sometimes more depending on what we find). You can always sign up for our emails and select “Children” (and YA, but YA is a broad genre with some non-kid-friendly content) as your preferred genre so you don’t miss free books.

Thanks again for posting about us!

  4. I’ve been trying to start a kids only list … but it’s not getting many hits. With all of these options available, I’m wondering if I should spend my time elsewhere.

I knew about Pixel’s of ink and all of their extra sites – but not most of these. I also know of another Christian freebie site (can’t find a link just now) that posts 40 – 50 books almost daily, as well as dozens of other free items.

I’ll share this list with my hand full of readers, and see what happens. They may prefer to just hunt up their own … and there is always the “Top 100 Free Kindle” lists on Amazon itself, which is where I search for my lists every day.

As always, Thanks for all of your hard work and research you put into helping us homeschool!

  5. Did not find any of these appealing. I was actually mortified of the books they have out their that is so anti GOD that they are freely giving away. So very sad what this world has come to. Thanks for thought but I will leave this one be. Everything else you offer is A+ Wish you could find some good christian downloads and educational downloads and even good games for the nook. Blessings AnneP

  6. Thanks for the recourse!!! I agree with you.. You take want you want and leave want you don’t but if you hadn’t provided the resources I wouldn’t have known about them and I had been looking for something like this. My family reads a lot but we like to borrow. We couldn’t afford our book habit if we were to buy all of the books we read. Thanks again for the service you provide, I really appreciate it.

  7. Great resources. Thanks! I will have to go do some picking. Always looking for new free reading material. I am picky about quality, but can often find something of interest.

  8. Thanks for including us in your list! I am the founder of Freebooksy and we love to help readers find high-quality free ebooks. We also list free kids book when they become available. Thanks again, and happy reading!

  9. Thank you for giving us the option to look. I know that you open yourself up to criticism (that you don’t deserve, you didn’t write the trashy books) but I appreciate you risking that to help us find these sites. I have dial-up and can’t spend a ton of time searching, so I especially appreciate the help. God Bless!

  10. This is awesome! Thanks for pulling this together and sharing it with us! I am looking forward to using these sites.

  11. I was just thinking how nice it is to find a free kindle book once in a while that is hard to find at the library. So thank you for sharing this list…I will be looking through all the trash, to get to the good stuff:-) Thank you for all your work for us.
