The Soldier’s Pocket Bible (also called Cromwell’s Soldier’s Bible) – Today’s resource is a fascinating piece of history brought to you courtesy of Trivium Pursuit.
The Soldier’s Pocket Bible is a booklet/tract that was first issued by Oliver Cromwell in 1643 during the English Civil War for the use of the Commonwealth Army. The little book consists of Bible passages, arranged topically, which might be of most help to a soldier. It was later re-issued in 1861 at the very beginning of the American Civil War, an exact reproduction (with only some spelling changes) of the 1643 edition. The quote on the title page, “Trust in the Lord and keep your powder dry,” was Oliver Cromwell’s famous battle cry to his troops.
This PDF consists of 4 – 8.5 X 11 pages which you can print out double-sided (making 2 pieces of paper printed on both sides). You can then cut the sheets width-wise and assemble to make a 16-page 4.25 X 5.5 folded booklet. The headings in the booklet are numbered to make it easier to assemble.

I want to thank you so much for this freebie. My husband is serving presently in Afghanistan and I printed out a copy to send to him. I also forwarded it to some other soldier’s wives whose husbands are deployed as well.
I want to thank you so much for this freebie. I have a nephew who home from overseas. He has served for 5 years and will be losing his sight soon. He said God was always with him. I printed out a copy and sent it to him, for he has his grandfather’s army Bible. He collects old bibles. He has sent copies to his capt. to give out to all of his fellow soldiers that he served with.
