The Hiawatha Primer


The Hiawatha Primer (PDF ebook) – Today's resource is this classic reading and nature studies primer that uses the 1855 epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow based on the legends of the Ojibway Indians as its subject. It's a delightful reading primer for grades 2-3, covering a variety of topics, handwriting instruction, reading lessons, and some lovely illustrations. A great introduction to this classic work for younger students.

  1. What a lovely book! Coupled with Longfellow’s poem, it makes for great a great early reader. The wonderful drawings from nature can inspire nature studies as well. Thank you.

  3. Awesome! Thank you! I was looking for a primer that was more for boys! It is a big hop from phonics to reading. It is hard to find things that are interesting and easy enough. :)

  7. Out of curiosity, how do you guys go about printing such as this — or do you print it?  Wondering if you do 2 a page printing or some such.
