The Nature Study Omnibus

THE CORNELL NATURE STUDY OMNIBUS (PDF ebook)

This is a massive 600+ page collection of wonderful nature study lessons developed by Cornell University in the early 1900s for use in rural schools in the US.  The first section of studies is for teachers, the second section is studies for children. This was the primary source from which Anna Botsford Comstock derived her famous “Big Book of Nature Study”. There’s a ton of great material in here, be sure to check out the children’s studies in particular.

  1. Thanks so much for finding these for us! We were not able to afford new school books this year, so making do with what is in the cupboards from past years, and what we come by for free – venturing into unschooling this year. We’ve been able to use so much of what you post! Thanks so much!

  2. What a gem! Nice to see such a well planned nature study and to see the focus on 10 to 15 minutes a day of unstructured study for the restless child as opposed to fomalized curriculum. I have seen many a nature study but tjis one beats the band!
