Video Extra: GoD and DoG

One of our favorite musicians, Wendy Francisco, put together this animated version of her simple song, “GoD and DoG”.
It’s lovely, funny and grace abounds in this. Just thought we’d share it here. Enjoy!

  1. Absolutely loved it! So powerful with it’s simple but true message. My 4 yr old can’t stop watching/singing it. Thank you!

  2. not sure what I think about the comparing God and Dog and somehow equating their love. Does a dog really feel love anyways????

Did make me laugh, but the theology of it leaves MUCH to be desired. :)

  3. The music is very touching, but my 9y/o child commented on the words and said “I think God loves us more than a dog would”

  4. I agree…there is NO comparison between our Holy God and a dog…I can’t believe more viewers didn’t object.

  5. Annette, I don’t think it’s meant to be theology, but rather a comparison in terms that some might be able to understand better. Jesus said He was the bread of life, because where He lived and taught, bread was the staff of life, so it was a word picture people could relate to. But I heard of a missionary in China that just couldn’t get the people to understand the concept until “the penny fell” for HIM, and he told them Jesus is the rice of life.
    What do you think?

  6. Thanks for sharing this. We are loved unconditionally! What an awesome way to help us understand this love. I love your site. You’re doing a fabulous job.

  7. I’m fourteen, and I found this video offensive and ridiculous! Grace doesn’t abound in this song – poor theology does, though.

  8. I LOVED it!!! I just posted on my facebook page. Thanks for sharing this! I’ve watched it quite a few times today. This is very touching, sweet, and adorable!

  9. I loved it. People are taking it out of concept. God and Dog are not equal per say but they are both loyal regardless. And yes dogs have feelings to. People are entitled to their opinion but you guys are way too serious. GET A LIFE for those of you who are offended.

  10. Is beautiful! “Love is unconditional” not doubt about it. We got the message. Mi kids loved it!

  11. I think those that think God is too holy to be compared to a dog that wags his tail begging to be given some attention… don’t need to get a life. I thought the comparison is demeaning, and I have a quite strong sense of humor.

God is not begging for our attention. He is active in salvation. He is the One that needs to accept you – not begging for you to pet Him. And yes, I do have a dog and am very fond of him.

If you thought the video fine and have no such scruples, you should still have some respect for those that, if they err, they do it on the side of having too much respect for God – if that were possible.

  12. By the way, I understand a comparison, but this is the very thing the word ‘holy’ means in essence: totally separated, totally different, completely other. God is not even like an archangel or like seraphim, so much less like a dog. It must feel touching and comfortable to think of Him as such, like a dog that’s ready to lick your hand no matter what you do, is happy for any attention you’re willing to give him, and can be out of the way when you have something better to do. But that is NOT the God of the Bible or the way He relates to His people.

  13. I appreciate and thank you for the many other nice materials you’ve provided us with, so I’m not trying to be supercritical here. But this was a poor choice in my opinion.

  14. the negative comments regarding this video show signs of comprehension disability rather than (undemonstrated)superior theological intellect. the words of the song clearly state-”dog reflects A PART of God”, not that they, or their love, are equal.

of course, this whole debate started with a person who actually asked “does a dog really feel love anyways?” the content of question reveals so much more about the speaker’s attitude towards animals than she probably intended. the family who found it disrespectful comparing God’s love to a lowly dog has a suspicious odor about their disconnect with animals- disgust, perhaps?

suffice it to say that this video deeply touches the vast majority who do not experience this remarkable disconnect with animals and brilliantly turns earthly canine devotion/loyalty into a tool for teaching:

    God’s heavenly love for us
our faith that God sees every single one of us
we can see evidence of God’s love everywhere we look

i pray this video will go viral and spread God’s love to those not knowing it right in through that wide open door between human hearts and their pets.

  15. We loved it!! I shared it with my family and friends. I was just telling my husband the day before about how much joy it gives me to watch our happy dog. Dogs bring joy to our hearts and I am so thankful that the God of the universe thought of that for us!! He created them to glorify himself.

  16. The video isn’t EQUATING God with dogs, but using dogs as an illustration. Pharisees thought Jesus & His teachings were objectionable; they probably felt His parables disrespected the Father.
